LONDON (24 June 2009) To help fulfill their environmental ambitions, Sainsbury’s will be launching a new range of reusable bags, designed by branding specialists Lambie-Nairn.
Last year, Sainsbury’s announced its intention to use 50% recycled materials in all its bags and reduce the number of free one-use disposable plastic bags by 50%. Selling its reusable bags on a non-profit basis, the retailer is genuinely committed to effecting real and sustained change to improve the environment.
In an effort to discourage free bag usage and change purchasing habits, Sainsbury’s needed to offer bags that would truly appeal to customers. Sainsbury’s recognised the important role of design in fulfilling these goals.
Creative Director, Adrian Burton, explains: “We’ve integrated each bag’s functional purpose with a sense of personality through spirited, witty copy and a new illustration style. The new range is designed to be consistent, coherent and look great on-shelf.”
The new range includes eight different reusable bags to meet customer’s needs and purchasing preferences. The design solution is also easily extendable, allowing for promotional or one-off designs.
Lambie-Nairn has been working with Sainsbury’s since 2005.
The new bags will hit the stores from end of July 2009.

ABU DHABI (31 May 2009) Lambie-Nairn, a leading branding agency, strengthens its international footprint with the opening of a new office in Abu Dhabi. The new operation will enable the company to work more closely with its growing client base in the region.
Christian Schroeder, CEO of Lambie-Nairn explains, “It has been our intention to open an office in Abu Dhabi for some time as it is such an important business centre for the Middle East. With the global economy in flux, the need for companies to strengthen their brands has never been more relevant than it is today. The media industry is a key contributor to the region’s growth plans and Lambie-Nairn’s experience in bringing brands to life in today’s media-driven world, made this an obvious choice for us.”
Andy Hayes will lead the office as General Manager, having previously held the position of Senior Client Director in London. Hayes has a long and established history in branding spanning over 15 years.
Lambie-Nairn’s new office in Abu Dhabi’s media zone will join the likes of Abu Dhabi Media Company, BBC, CNN, Financial Times, and Rotana Studios. The development will also provide training, funding and guidance to local companies and talent.
Lambie-Nairn can already count Abu Dhabi Media Company, Al Kass, BBC, Al Doha TV and Al Arabiya among its clients. Their expansion into Abu Dhabi further illustrates the company’s significant growth in the past 12 months including some significant hires and the opening of its Munich operations in May 2008.
